How to Set Up Multiple Email Accounts with Outlook Express 5.0

If you are using Internet Explorer 5.0 & Outlook Express 5.0 and you wish to set up separate email accounts, follow the instruction below.    If you want multiple email accounts, and it is ok for all the email to be accessed in the same box, please click here and follow the instructions for Outlook Express 4.0.  If you are unsure what version you are using, open either Internet Explorer or Outlook Express and click on Help, then About Internet Explorer or About Outlook Express.

If you are using Internet Explorer 5.0, then chances are you are also using Outlook Express 5.0.  A new added feature to Outlook Express 5.0 is the Identity Feature.  What the Identity feature allows you to do is to setup multiple email accounts and keep them separate from each other.  It also allows you to password protect Identities and thus deny access to that email account or Identity.  I will cover, below, the steps you need to do in order to set up multiple identities.   You may wish to print out these instructions so that you have them in front of you when you attempt this.

  1. Open Outlook Express 5.0 or Outlook Express 6.0.  You will be in the default email identity.

  2. Click on file, then select Identities, and then Add New Identities.

  3. Type in the name of the new Identity, it can be your name or whatever you wish to call this identity.

  4. If you would like the added security of other people NOT being able to read either your old email or check for new mail for you, Click on the box labeled "Ask me for a password when I start".   If you are not worried about this, then please skip to step 7.

  5. After clicking on the "Ask me for a password when I start" box, you will be prompted to enter a password and then to confirm the password by entering it again.  Hint:  Please use a password that you will remember.  Safe-t.net can not be held responsible, nor can we provide technical support if you do not remember the password.  

  6. Click on the "OK" button. 

  7. Outlook Express will ask you if you wish to switch to the identity you just created, click "Yes".

  8. You may be asked if you wish to keep your current internet connection, click "Yes".

  9. Outlook Express will close temporarily and then reopen with the identity we just created.

  10.   The Internet Connection Wizard will open and you will need to enter the following information:

  11. Select "Create a New Internet Mail Account" and click Next.

  12.   You will be asked your Display Name, just enter your Name here.   (i.e. Bill Smith) and click "Next".

  13.   Next you will need to select "I already have an email address that I'd like to use" and enter your email address in the box (i.e. bill@safe-t.net). Click "Next".

  14.   Next, you will be asked the email server names.  With Safe-t.net you will use the following information;  "My Incoming Mail Server is a POP3 server".  My Incoming Mail (Pop3, IMAP or HTTP) Server is mail.safe-t.net  And last of all my Outgoing Mail   (SMTP) Server is mail.safe-t.net.  After you have entered the information click "Next".

  15.   You will be prompted for your account name and password.   The account name is the same as the first part of your email address.  (i.e. if your email address is bill@safe-t.net, your account name is bill)  Your password is the password you gave Integrity Online when your email account was set up.  After you enter your account name and password, click "Next".

  16.   Click on "Finish" to complete the setup.

  17.   You now will be asked if you wish to Import Messages and Address Books, select "Do Not Import at this Time" and click "Next".   Do not worry you have the option of importing at a later time if you wish.

  18.   Click "Finish".

You have now successfully created a new identity, but now we must set your new email address to authenticate to send mail.

 

1.  In Outlook Express,  go to Tools, then Accounts, then the Mail tab

2.  Highlight your email account, then click properties to the right

3.  When this box opens, click on the server tab.

4. Put check mark in box under Outgoing mail that is labeled "My server requires authentication" and then click the settings button at the end of that line.

5. Put dot next to "Log on Using" and then type in your account name and password.  (Hint your account name is just the first part of your email address, so if your email address is joesmith@safe-t.net you would just type joesmith)

6. Click ok, click apply, then click ok.

7. Click close.

8. If you have any emails waiting to be sent, you must go to the outbox and double click on each message in the outbox and once the message is opened click the send button.

 

If you need to create more identities please go back to step 2.  Otherwise I will now cover the steps you will follow to check your email.

  • Open Outlook Express.  You will be taken to the default identity automatically.  If you do not wish to be taken to the default identity then you may want to set it to ask for a password.

  • Once Outlook Express opens, you will click on "File", then "Switch Identity", and then click on the identity you wish to open.
